Pre heat a large sauté pan frying pan to medium heat
Put the mayonnaise on one slice of bread
Place half the ham slices on the second piece of bread
Then the cheese
Followed with the rest of the ham
Place the first piece of bread on top with the mayonnaise on the top side
Place the salvage with the mayonnaise side bread into the pan
Put the remaining mayonnaise on piece of bread that is on top of the sandwich
Cover the pan with a lid to keep the heat in
Check the bottom of the sandwich and flip the sandwich over when the bread is a golden brown
Repeat for the second side of the sandwich.
When the second side is nice and golden remove it from the pan and slice and serve
The making of a great grilled ham and cheese sandwich,
I prefer using Mayonnaise to butter on the breads outside that is placed in the pan, I think it browns up much nicer and the sandwich isn’t soggy from the extra fat and oil. Now the reason for splitting the ham and putting it on the bread sides and the cheese in the center is to give the ham enough time to heat before the cheese melts and the bread get to done.
