Coconut Cream the why & what?
To start out what is coconut cream and where would I find it? For most cooling it is inside a can of coconut milk and it is real easy to get the cream out of the can just follow this simple instruction. Now some coconut milk doesn’t have a lot of water in the can so don’t be surprise when it doesn’t separate from being chilled.
Place the can of coconut milk in the refrigerator for 2 hours or longer. Use a can opener to remove the top of the can and there you have the cream of the coconut milk, the coconut water will be on the bottom.
Depending on the style of can meaning if it is formed with a top and bottom lid or with just one lid and an extruded can with a rounded bottom you can drain off the coconut water by using a can opener and (church key) pop a hole in the bottom then after the water has drained the can will only have the cream inside. With the can opener cut off the end and your left with the cream.
What it is used for:
- Add it to soups to thicken
- Add it to sauces
- Add it to recipes that call for it
- Coconut rice
Other uses for coconut milk is to thin or water down a dish, there are always more then one thing that can be done with a item, keep an open mind. It is also a sweetener that will add a different flavor to your dish.
