I ran across this today on the Huntington Post and thought it was kind of a fun read. What will the next cool drink with coffee be?
I will be on the look out for some new coffee in a cone stores here in Seattle.
Instagram has introduced us to some of the best (and weirdest) food trends out there. There have been raindrop cakes, sushirritos,ramen burgers, matcha-infused everything, and now, coffee served IN A CONE.
#CoffeeInACone has been picking up steam on the ‘gram for weeks now. Eater told us about the bizarre drink offering in May, but it’s running rampant on our feeds now.
The Grind Coffee Company in Johannesburg, South Africa is to blame for this food fad, as a coffee-in-a-cone beverage is the shop’s signature drink. A small latte inside of a chocolate-coated ice cream cone, the drink is prime Instagram fodder.
The barista mastermind behind this coffee confection is Dayne Levinrad. Levingrad told Extra Crispy that he had the idea after spending years “working abroad as a coffee consultant and digital marketing executive.” When he returned to South Africa, he came up with #coffeeinacup so as to “blend the internet’s love for coffee and social media together.”
The hashtag has over 1,500 posts on Instagram, and the amazing flavor combination is cropping up in other places around the world as well.

We can jive with the whipped cream and sprinkle additions, for sure. There’s just one question left: Will some courageous soul dare to add bananas and make a #coffeeinaconesplit?
